The November event, held at Ignition Alley last night, was a huge success. We had over 50 people for a night of drinks and conversation. About 20 new people came for the first time, so lots of new connections were made. A great time was had by all, from the early arrivals at 5pm to the hardy bunch who made it to Cameli’s for some awesome pizza afterward.
Photos are available here. Thanks to Paul Stamatiou for the shots.
In addition, the attendees brought and donated several boxes of books for Tech High, as part of Atlanta Helps’ November book drive. Thanks so much to Shannon Hubbell for organizing the book drive, and to everyone who contributed. (If you missed it, it’s not too late to contribute — check out the Atlanta Helps blog for details.)
Many thanks to our sponsors: Ignition Alley for the venue, and Regator for the beer!
The next event will be Tuesday, December 1, at a place to be announced soon. Join our mailing list, so you don’t miss our announcements. See you there!

It’s here! Startup Drinks is tomorrow night at Ignition Alley. As a special event, we’re asking for book donations to support Atlanta Helps and Tech High School. Bring a book to donate and receive a free beer, courtesy of Regator. (I know, the beer’s free anyway, but c’mon.)
For more details on the book donation, click here. For more details about the Startup Drinks event, click here. If you’re coming, be sure to sign up here so we have an accurate idea how many to expect.
It’s a great cause and a great way to help. You know you want to…

The next Startup Drinks will be Tuesday, November 3 at Ignition Alley, the coworking space on Ponce de Leon Avenue. This is a great opportunity to come and see Ignition Alley, which is a great new resource for anyone working in a startup or independently.
This is a BYOB event. See details below. Also, please click here to sign up, so we can plan for the right number of people.
Since Ignition Alley is not a bar, the very nice folks at Regator have agreed to provide some beer. For anything else (or if your beer consumption qualifies for the adjective “impressive” — you know who you are), please feel free to BYOB. For those purposes, there is a Green’s liquor store conveniently located right around the corner on Ponce.
Ignition Alley is located at 696 Somerset Terrace NE, just off Ponce de Leon. It’s near the Clermont Lounge, in case you know where that is. (For the respectable crowd, that’s just up the road east of City Hall East.) Parking is on the street, across Ponce in the parking lot for The Local, or in the Ford Factory/Kroger lot around the corner. Do not park at Dougan’s, they will tow. Parking instructions and map are available here.
As always, the event begins at 5pm and continues until whenever.
Gotta run now — further details, signup page, etc. coming soon. In the meantime, please mark your calendars. See you there!

The first Tuesday of the month is almost upon us. That means it’s time once again for Startup Drinks! The October Startup Drinks will be held at the Prado location of the 5 Seasons Brewing Company. As before, we will begin at 5pm and continue until we run out of (a) participants or (b) beer. (The latter occurrence being highly unlikely, since 5 Seasons brews its own.)
By popular request, I am moving the location around a bit. 5 Seasons should be a good location for all the OTPers in our group (you know who you are). It is located in the Prado complex, 5600 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, just inside I-285. (Being technically ITP, I don’t want to hear any whining from the in-towners about how remote it is, either.) They have very good beer, a full liquor license, and an unusually good and eclectic food menu.
Last month’s event was a blast. This one promises to be no less so. It’s going to be a great time, so tell all your friends and don’t miss it!

Thanks to everyone who came out for the event on September 1 at Cypress Street Pint and Plate. We had a wonderful evening on the patio under the stars. (Which seems totally bizarre after the monsoons of the last week.) We had over 50 people show up. All your favorite people were there. And me. The joint was hopping from 5pm until after 11pm.
The beer flowed, food was consumed, and everyone had a great time! If you don’t believe me, check out the photos. (Thanks to Matt Smith for the photography.)
In fact, everyone had such a great time, I think we’ll make it a regular event. Watch for Atlanta Startup Drinks on the first Tuesday of each month. That means the next one is October 6.
Location to be announced — watch here and on Twitter for updates.

September 17, 2008 - Hold the date - the next Startup Drinks will be held at the Atlanta Brewing Company, the oldest craft brewery in the state and the home of Red Brick Ale.
ABC conducts tours of the brewery and has free tastings. They will also sell you a souvenir glass for about $7 bucks which will get you a handful of fuller pours. Quite the deal for great beer! As we’re invading their event, we’ll follow their hours 6PM - 8PM. Plenty of food, etc. in the general area, so conversations can reconvene elsewhere if necessary.
(@jgombala & I are going to make sure the beer is safe to drink tonight, 9/10 - feel free to lend a hand)
Same rules as before, and a few more:
- This is an Atlanta Brewing Company event - we’re just meeting for drinks and conversations there. Understand that.
- You are “on your own”. Startup Drinks attendees will talk to you, make introductions, etc., but you are responsible for your own tab (food, drinks, etc), transportation (if you drink too much, be prepared to call a cab or arrange a designated driver in advance), and behaviour (if you get tossed, that’s your problem).

Just a quick reminder that Startup Drinks is going to be happening Wednesday, August 13 at Fado Irish Pub in Buckhead - 5:30-until.
Unlike other events, you don’t have to sign up or wear your secret decoder ring. It would be helpful if we had an estimate of how many of you were planning on showing up (not that I’m afraid to drink alone - I’m comfortable with my demons…). If it’s 5, no big deal, if it’s 75, Fado might like to know about it….
So, if you’re planning on attending, just add a comment here (might help with your networking at the event as well!). If you’re in super-stealth mode, skipping one of the 12-steps to attend, or just don’t want anyone to know you’re coming, you can let me know directly - I’m easy to reach:
email: djones@lenderflex.com
twitter: lenderflexceo
Otherwise, just show up! With all the news and gossip in the tech world for the last couple of weeks, I GUARANTEE there will be interesting
conversations to be found!

It’s the middle of Summer and great time to meet up with your fellow startup entrepreneurs and enjoy a proper pint. Join us for Startup Drinks Atlanta on Wednesday, August 13 at Fado Irish Pub in Buckhead. We’ll be there from 5:30PM until the drinks and/or conversation run out!

So what is Startup Drinks?
- A drinking group with a startup problem.
- A low key, unstructured group drinking (coffee, beer or spirits) event that happens in cities across the world
- Therapy for startup junkies (you don’t have two days to go to a conference, but you do have two hours and would love to stay involved in the community)
Who can/should attend?
- Any entrepreneur (any industry/any stage)
- Anyone that’s inclined to become an entrepreneur
- Anyone that works with a startup company
- Anyone that’s inclined to work for a startup company
- Anyone that is interested in startup companies/entrepreneurs
Who shouldn’t attend?
We shouldn’t have to keep saying this, but if you are a service provider or anyone looking to hawk or shill your services, products, etc. to the attendees, you would be better served to stay at home. If you do attend, be sure to introduce yourself and give a card – we’ll gladly introduce you as a huckster and will place your info and photo on a “Wall of Shame” at AtlantaStartup (http://atlantastartup.wordpress.com).
So, please be sure to join us and Spread The Word! The new Fado is cavernous, with multiple levels (including a roof deck), good beer and good pub food.
I’ll make sure there are signs or something to help you find the group. If you’re new or don’t know anyone, look for me, Dave Jones, and I’ll introduce you around. I’ll be wearing a white LenderFlex golf shirt (I’m a co-founder of LenderFlex….)

Okay, folks - with a week to go to Startup Riot, I’m ready to divulge all the details about the after party.
Thanks to the generous support of both Dash and Nelson Mullins, we are doing an after party at the Nelson Mullins offices in Atlantic Station (a few minute walk from the Twelve Hotel which is the venue for Startup Riot). The after party will run from 5:00pm until 8:30pm.
All conference attendees will be allowed to attend the after party. Folks who want to attend the after party but not the conference need to pre-register and be cleared to attend. The same attendance policy for the conference applies to the after party - no service providers and no vendors allowed. Entrepreneurs, job seekers, corporate employees (specifically those who invest or do M&A), non-profit employees, and investors are all welcome to attend.
The Nelson Mullins offices have a fantastic view of the city skyline and this should be a fantastic evening.
Oh, did I mention? There are a limited number of slots for attending the after party and there will be an open bar and some random snacks available.
