The September event is shaping up to be a great time. Which is fitting, since it the first anniversary of my becoming your beloved host! First, we’re going to a great joint, Ormsby’s (about which more later). Second, we’ve got a sponsor: Georgia Tech’s FutureMedia Fest!

From October 4-7, 2010, the Georgia Institute of Technology will host the first annual FutureMedia Fest, an interactive “mash-up” to explore and enable new paradigms in how content is created, distributed and consumed in a converging media world. FutureMedia Fest 2010 will bring together executives and investors, innovators and entrepreneurs, academics and researchers to discuss the transformational impact of next generation digital, social and mobile media across industries, societies and our daily lives. The four-day event will feature compelling keynote addresses, panel discussions, birds-of-a-feather workshops, demonstrations of the latest new media technologies, and presentations by start-up companies, researchers and academics driving innovation.

Our Location

Ormsby’s is a fun and totally cool place in the renovated White Star Provisions building, in the Westside neighborhood, west of Georgia Tech. It has over 50 beers, wonderful food and comes complete with indoor bocce courts, shuffleboard and pool tables. It should be a great place to hang out, have a drink and something tasty to nibble on, and maybe find out who’s got game!
The building is on the west side of Howell Mill Road near the intersection with 14th Street. Please be aware: the entrance to Ormsby’s is a little tricky to find: Look for the secret door with the “O” logo, underneath the Room & Board Furniture store. Then, we will be in Ormsby’s even more secret downstairs bar, with the bocce courts and pool tables.

For the June event, we are returning to our of our favorite Startup Drinks locations: Ri Ra Irish Pub, in Midtown. Come on out, make new friends and welcome the official start of Summer.
RiRa is a great place — great atmosphere, great menu, great beer and liquor selection, decor largely imported from Ireland, and reasonable prices. Definitely not your run of the mill Irish pub! Important note: We will be in the (private) Harbour Bar room — way in the back with our own dedicated bar.

We have an important occasion and a great location for this month’s Startup Drinks. It should be a fun and lively event — you won’t want to miss it!
First, the occasion: We’re saying so long to our pal Paul “Stammy” Stamatiou, who is relocating to the West Coast now that he’s out of Georgia Tech. It’s a great loss for Atlanta: Stammy’s blog, PaulStamatiou.com, is a widely-read technology blog with national stature. Plus, he’s a fun guy at parties. Let’s not miss our last chance to throw him one!
And the location: Strongbox West, a terrific co-working facility just off Howell Mill Road near I-75 on the West Side. Those of you who’ve been know that it’s a very nice facility with a lounge and a nice arty feel, and a great place to hang out and talk. Weather permitting, we’ll overflow out into the back yard.
Please sign up here.

Everyone had a great time at 151 Locust in Avondale Estates, for the April edition of Startup Drinks. And, just to prove it, we have photos!
As you can see, it was a lively and fun crowd. A couple of people brought their iPads, which attracted much attention. There was good conversation, beer, wine, wings and some mad Rock Band skillz in evidence.
Thanks to everyone who came out, and especially to Ed Rieker and Wendy Pippin of 151 Locust, for being such terrific hosts! Thanks also to Wendy and Peter Rosen for the photos. We’ll see you all at the next event on May 4, location TBD.

Are you as ready for Spring as I am? Then you’ll be excited about this month’s location: 151 Locust, the beautiful co-working facility in Avondale Estates. Not only is it a great location in a very nice private house with a beautiful patio, but Ed Rieker of 151 Locust has kindly offered to sponsor the event, so there will be free wine, beer and snacks. Now, if we can just get Mother Nature to cooperate, so we can use that patio…

It’s Startup Drinks time again this Tuesday night — let’s celebrate! Why? Take your pick:
- It’s been cold
- Beer is proof that God exists and he loves us.
- Startup Drinks regular Tim Dorr just sold his company! (Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.)
- We live in Atlanta, where we don’t usually have to deal with this
- We’re back at one of our favorite places: 5 Seasons Brewery, Westside
- Why not? Olympic curling is finished, and Tuesday’s a slow night.
Mark your calendars and please click here to register:
Tuesday, March 2, 5pm until whenever
5 Seasons Brewery, Westside
1000 Marietta Street
Atlanta, GA 30318
I have reserved the mezzanine area for this event. That’s on the main level (not upstairs, like last time). Should be nice and cozy!
Insider tip: If you pull around behind the restaurant (via the parking lot on the left) and go up the ramp in the back, there’s a ton of free rooftop parking and an entrance to the bar. Just come downstairs.
Can’t make this one? There’ll be another one on the first Tuesday of next month. Watch for future announcements on @atlsuds on Twitter, or sign up for our email list here.
As always: no admission, no business, just fun.
